Everyday we eat usual food like salads made out of tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage. We also like to add to the salad carrots and onions and dress it with vegetable oil or vinegar. As for hot dishes, we eat a lot of noodles, mashed potatoes and rice with fried pork, venison or chicken.
However, there are some peculiar food that we cook for ourselves in everyday life. First of all, we have borch. It contains beetroot, cabbage and meat. When my other English friend saw it, he thought that it was a boiled salad. The other thing which is popular only in Russia is buckweat. In a way it looks like brown rounded rice. It is also cooked like rice. We use it as a garnish or eat it with butter.
When we have a picnic we make shashlik because we hate American burgers and steaks. Shaslik is cooked very easily. You have to take a piece of pork, cut it into 5 cm chunks and marinade it in anything you want. Really, you can use any edible thing you want ranging from onions and vinegar to Coca-Cola and jelly beans. Every person has its own recipe. After several hours you have to put it on skewer and fry on barbecue.
The main holiday in Russia is New Year. Its celebration cannot be imagined without the Olivier salad. You might now think that we eat very healthy food for celebrations because of the word "salad". However, Olivier is made out of potatoes, sausages, eggs, carrots, peas. All this ingredients should be drowned into several liters of mayo, otherwise it is not an Olivier salad.

That is how we eat in Russia.
